For several years of active yachting trips, a universal list of products has appeared, which helps the team to correctly purchase food for the whole trip and not to forget about important trifles.
The list is universal for most European countries from Turkey to Norway and for crews where at least one person likes to cook :-). But in tropical countries, such as Thailand, Seychelles or Cuba, the typical products in stores may vary significantly.
A few tips:
- Basic products are purchased for the entire trip, and fresh milk, bread, fruits and vegetables can be bought as needed.
- You need to buy so many meat products so that they fit in the freezer. Even in small towns there are meat and fish stores where you can buy everything fresh for dinner.
- If you plan to stay in the cities a lot and nobody likes to cook, it is better to have lunch and dinner at restaurants, and reduce the list of products to what you need for breakfast and snacks at sea.
- If you plan long transitions or the weather forecast is unfavorable – it is better to prepare sandwiches and tea in thermoses in advance.
- Captains should definitely discuss the list with all participants; they may have their own preferences: vegetarianism, medical restrictions, or diet.
Fair wind and bon appetit!
